IGHSAU State Swimming & Diving Meet

November 8-9, 2019

The Marshalltown YMCA-YWCA is proud to host the Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union (IGHSAU) Swimming & Diving Championships on November 8th & 9th.  

More than 2,000 participants, coaches and guests are expected to attend this event. It will be a busy weekend at the Y. Big thanks to all of our Y members and community for supporting this event!

Friday, November 8th:

  • Lap Pool open 5:30-7:30 a.m., then closed the remainder of the day
  • Rec Pool and Gym closed all day

Saturday, November 9th:

  • Lap Pool, Rec Pool and Gym closed all day

Please note the following:

  • There will be no swim lessons, water exercise or open swim Friday and Saturday.
  • All other programs and activities will meet at their regularly scheduled time and location.
  • There will be limited parking in the Y lot, so please plan accordingly. Volunteers will be on-hand to assist with parking.

2019 State Meet Schedule & Spectator Entrance Information (per IGHSAU)

There will be three sessions that require purchasing a ticket for entrance.

A reminder that the IGHSAU will be using GoFan Digital Huddle for spectators wishing to purchase tickets in advance. Spectators utilizing GoFan will be able to enter the natatorium 30 minutes before fans purchasing tickets on-site. 

Session 1 – Friday, November 8th – State Diving Meet

  8:00 a.m. – Pass gate opens for teams
  9:00 a.m. – Pool open for warm-ups (divers only)
10:00 a.m. – Doors Open to Public (general admission) 10:50 a.m. – Divers Meeting
11:00 a.m. – State Diving Meet

Following Completion of the State Diving Meet, the YMCA pool will be cleared of spectators prior to the start of the Friday evening prelims.

Session 1: Friday, November 8th – Swimming Preliminary Meet

2:30 p.m. – Coaches Meeting
2:45 p.m. – Swimmers Meeting (in gymnasium) 3:00 p.m. – Warm-ups
3:30 p.m. – Doors open for GoFan Ticketholders
4:00 p.m. – Doors open to public purchasing tickets on-site
4:45 p.m. – Pool Closes to Swimmers
5:00 p.m. – Parade of Teams/Start of prelim meet

Friday Preliminary sessions notes: there will be no event parades before each event. Competitors will need to report to the blocks on their own. We will have personnel in the gymnasium to alert competitors when to report. However, it will be the athlete’s responsibility to report to the starting blocks.

Session 3 – Saturday, November 9th – State Swimming Finals

8:30 a.m. -  Pass gate opens for teams
9:30 a.m. – Pool opens for warm-ups
10:30 a.m. – Doors open to GoFan Ticketholders
11:00 a.m. – Doors open to Public (general admission seating) 12:00 p.m. – Swimming Finals

Saturday Session Notes: No parade of teams at the start of the Saturday finals, but Hall of Fame and Golden Plaque recipients will be honored before the start of the finals meet.

There will be a parade of athletes prior to the start of each event of the finals meet. There will also be an awards parade of the top six finishersAwards: Medals will be given to all state participants. Top six finishers in each event will be awarded medals on the podium.

New for State Meet Spectators: The IGHSAU staff has been analyzing the outside spectator lines in the last few years. In that time, there have been issues with spectators in the lines, culminating in fights that have required police assistance. Because of these issues, spectators will no longer be allowed to camp, set up tents or form lines outside before the start of Friday and Saturday's meets.  All placeholders, such as chairs and tents, will be confiscated if found on the YMCA-YWCA grounds.  Spectators can begin lining up for admission into the natatorium 20 minutes prior to the admission gates opening. Campers/RV's will be allowed to park in the lot east of the electronic message center at the YMCA-YWCA. The timeline for lining up for all three sessions will be as follows: 

Friday, November 8
11:00 a.m. State Diving - There will be a a single line that opens at 10:00 a.m. Spectators may get in line at 9:40 a.m. for admittance. 
5:00 p.m. - State Prelim Meet - There will be two lines. Spectators with GoFan tickets may begin lining up for entrance at 3:10 p.m. with admittance at 3:30 p.m. Spectators purchasing tickets on-site may begin lining up for admittance at 3:40 p.m. with doors opening at 4:00 p.m.

Saturday, November 9
12:00 p.m. State Swimming Finals - There will be two lines. Spectators with GoFan tickets may begin lining up for admittance at 10:10 a.m. with doors opening at 10:30 a.m. Spectators purchasing tickets on-site may begin lining up at 10:40 p.m. with admittance beginning at 11:00 a.m.
