Health Forum

Every year the Marshalltown YMCA-YWCA Fine Living Council hosts a series of Health Forums.  All sessions are free to the public and everyone is welcome! Meetings are held at the Horne-Henry Center.

Dates/Times:  First Thursday of the month from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.

Location:  Horne-Henry Center Board Room

Thursday, March 5, 11:00am: Recognizing and Caring for Dementia

Jeff Wisnieski, Owner - Home Instead Senior Care  |  This presentation is designed to help families and the general public understand what dementia is, the different forms of dementia, the behaviors and symptoms a person with dementia may experience - and most importantly, how to manage those behaviors. 

Thursday, April 2, 11:00am: Rock Steady Boxing

Rock Steady Boxing is a program designed for those with Parkinson’s Disease, and is launching at the Marshalltown Y on February 10.  As the name suggests, boxing is a portion of the class protocol, with additional emphasis placed on exercises and activities to improve agility, endurance, balance, hand-eye coordination, and strength.   Learn more about the program and how you or someone you know may get involved.

Thursday, May 7, 11:00am:  Iowa River Hospice

Rhonda Miller, Community Liaison   |  Iowa River Hospice Iowa River Hospice provides quality, holistic care and support to patients and their families facing end of life needs.  This presentation will give an overview of hospice services and caring for loved ones.  

Rhonda will also bring Five Wishes documentation to review with participants.  Five Wishes is the first living will that talks about your personal, emotional and spiritual needs as well as your medical wishes. It lets you choose the person you want to make health care decisions for you if you are not able to make them for yourself.  Join us for a great conversation.
